In addition to its own hierarchy, there is a special informal code of ethics in prisons.

It regulates the daily life of prisoners, introduces prohibitions and prescriptions. The set of rules also applies to the vocabulary used by prisoners. For uttering some words, a prisoner may face severe punishment.

One of the most dangerous words in a Russian prison is “thank you.” The prisoners find it not only undesirable, but also offensive.
